Tribe Thalassocypridini Hartmann & Puri, 1974

Introduction

Thalassocypridinae live in oligohaline to polyhaline waters and can swim actively, in contrast to the mostly euryhaline, bottom-crawling Paracypridini. At present Thalassocypridini comprises six genera, whose mutual relationships remain somewhat unclear: Dolerocypris Tressler, 1937; Mungava Harding, 1962; Paracypria Sars, 1910; Parapontoparta Hartmann, 1955; Pontoparta Vavra, 1901; and Thalassocypria Hartmann, 1957.

 

Diagnosis

Valves elongate. Highest point situated in front of the middle. Posterior end is narrowly rounded or pointed. Calcification weak. Surface not sculptured. Inner calcified lamella and fused zone narrow. Marginal pore canals sparse and simple. Normal pore canals sparse. Antennula 6-segmented. Swimming setae on antenna well developed. Caudal ramus with one or two short setae.
