Introduction
Spicomacrurus was originally erected as a monotypic subgenus of Hymenocephalus based a single species Hymenocephalus kuronumai Okamurai (1937). Spicomacrurus was recently redefined and elevated to generic status by Iwamoto et al. (2011), and contains four species, two of which occur in Australian waters. Spicomacrurus mccoskeri is known only from the Chesterfield Plateau between New Caledonia and Queensland and is likely to occur in Australia.
