Introduction

Siganus canaliculatus (Park, 1797) has recently been treated as a junior synonym of this species (Hsu et al. 2011), however some authors still regard that species as distinct (see Allen & Erdmann 2012).

New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia

Rottnest Island (32°00'S) and Fremantle (32°03'S), WA to Nadgee, NSW (37°26'S), also Middleton Reef and Lord Howe Island; tropical, east-Indo-west Pacific.
