Introduction

This suborder includes a group of tropical, coral reef-dwelling species. Although the group is known worldwide, most species are found in the Indo-west–central Pacific region. The group has been studied extensively and relationships within the group have been discussed by Tyler (1970), Johnson & Washington (1987), Tyler et al. (1989), Guiasu & Winterbottom (1993), Winterbottom (1993), Winterbottom & McLennan (1993), Borden (1998, 1999), Tang et al. (1999), Tyler & Sorbini (1999) and Holcroft & Wiley (2008).
