Introduction
The known distribution of this species comes from the type localities of the synonyms. Broomfield (1971) gives the label data for Sphaerocentrus luteus as "Sandy Creek; Hakersanhans; 20.10.88. Tepper" but Buckton's (1903) original published data states that the type locality is Adelaide, South Australia. Sandy Creek is a township north of Adelaide (J. Jennings, pers. comm. 2012). The original data label has been examined (with thanks to Mick Webb, BMNH) and Broomfield's interpretation of Tepper's handwriting as "Hakersanhans" is incorrect. It actually says "Hakeas, on leaves", ie, on leaves of species of Hakea Schrad. & J.C.Wendl. (Proteaceae). Dr John Jennings of the University of Adelaide advises that the main species of Hakea in the Sandy Creek area of South Australia is Hakea rostrata F.Muell. ex Meisn.
