Introduction
The names Scarus rivulatus and S. fasciatus have been used for this species. Schultz (1969) treated S. rivulatus as a junior synonym of S. fasciatus. Both species were described in the same publication by Valenciennes, and Bleeker (1861) appears to be first reviser in selecting S. rivulatus as the senior synonym, followed shortly by Günther (1862).
