Genus Patanothrix Winterton, 2001

Introduction

Patanothrix is closely related to Acatopygia and Bonjeania. These genera share male genitalic characteristics such as a large gonocoxal atrium, elongate ventral apodeme and reduced dorsal apodeme of the parameral sheath, and medially directed ventral lobe. Patanothrix is very similar in appearance to Parapsilocephala, but is easily differentiated using male gonocoxite shape, which is observable without dissection. Unassociated females of Patanothrix and Parapsilocephala are difficult to separate. There are several undescribed species represented in collections, which clearly belong to this genus. Patanothrix wilsoni has been collected hill-topping on large desert sand dunes. Patanothrix is recorded from eastern Australia (Winterton et al. 2001).
