   Mullus barberinus Lacépède, 1801 (= Mullus barberinus Cuvier, 1829) by subsequent designation, see Bleeker, P. 1876. Systema Percarum revisum Pars I et II. Archives Néerlandaises des Sciences Naturelles 11: 247-340 [334] (Bleeker used the name Mullus barberinus Cuvier, 1829; most workers recognise the genus as dating from Bleeker, P. 1868. Notice sur le Parapeneus bifasciatus (Mullus bifasciatus Lac.) de l'île de la Réunion. Verslagen en Mededeelingen der Koninklijke Akademie van Wetenschappen (Afdeeling Natuurjunde). Amsterdam 2 2: 342–348 [342] with Mullus bifasciatus Lacépède, 1802 as the type species by original designation or subsequent designation by Jordan, D.S. 1919. The genera of fishes. Part 3. Stanford University Publications, University Series 39: 285–410 [322]; we can find no evidence that a type species was designated in Bleeker (1868) and Mullus bifasciatus cannot be considered as the type species since it was not included in Bleeker (1863)).
