Holotype BMNH 1888.22 ♂ (collected by Challenger stn 165; 2600 fms), off Sydney, Tasman Sea, NSW [34°50'S 155°28'E].

Extra Ecological Information
The specimen was recorded as being collected from a depth of 4755 m (Bate, 1888). However, Komai (1888: 286) believes this depth to be erroneous as the physiological features of the holotype collected i.e. the structure of the cornea of the holotype, are similar to that of species inhabiting the upper bathyal zone.
