Western Australia

Extra Distribution Information

This species is widely distributed in the tropical to subtropical regions in the Indo-West Pacific - including Zanzibar, the Maldives, southern Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Tonga, and the Austral Islands in French Polynesia. In Davie (2002) this species was listed as the subspecies Parapontophilus gracilis junceus and the distribution was listed as WA (NW Oceanic), Philippines and Indonesia as referenced by Hanamura & Evans (1996). The revision by Komai (2008) states that the Australian records for Parapontophilus junceus recorded by Hanamura & Evans (1996) (as Parapontophilus gracilis junceus) need to be verified. This species is currently listed in the AFD as the distribution of this species is widespread and would be expected to include Australia. However, further verification of the Australian records is required. Specimens were collected from Western Australia by Poore et al (2008)
