Introduction
The species has been referred to as Paramonacanthus japonicus or P. oblongus in Australia. Paramonacanthus japonicus is not an available name (Gill & Hutchins 2002) and P. oblongus apparently is restricted to the north-west Pacific (Randall 2005).
