Holotype AM E.2932, 14 miles southeast off Cape Capricorn, QLD, 13 fathoms. - Paracentropogon vespa livingstonei Whitley, G.P. 1933. Studies in Ichthyology No. 7. Records of the Australian Museum 19(1): 60-112 figs 1-4 pls 11-15 [94, pl. 13, fig. 1].

Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
Introduction
It has been suggested that this species may be a synonym of Paracentropogon longispinis (see Larson et al 2013, based on information from J. Johnson). Tentatively we retain the species pending publication.
