Introduction
Allen et al. (2006) previously excluded Oxycheilinus orientalis from the Australian fauna as the record, based on Kuiter (1993), which was apparently a different species. Mundy (2005) treats Cheilinus rhodochrous Günther 1867 as a junior synonym of Oxycheilinus unifasciatus (Streets, 1877), this placement would reduce the distribution of Oxycheilinus orientalis in Australia based on previous identification, but we follow Randall & Khalaf (2003).
