Epipelagic, neritic.
Extra Ecological Information
Forms swarms near surface, feeds both in water column and upon near-bottom detritus, prey species for squid, birds (e.g. short-tailed shearwater Puffinus tenuirostris, and various terns), and fishes (barracuda, southern bluefin and skipjack tunas, tiger flat-head), to about 100 m depth.
