Holotype TMH D142 (McCulloch & Ogilby (1919) state that the "type of Gobius hinsbyi" is in the Tasmania Museum, complying with Article 73.1.1. of the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature for holotype designation, although description based primarily on a different species), TAS.
