Genus Myersina Herre, 1934
Type species:
Myersina macrostoma Herre, 1934 by original designation.
Introduction
Kottelat (2013) regarded the genus as a junior synonym of Paragobius Bleeker, 1873, which predates Myersina based on placement of the type species by Winterbottom (2002). Hoese & Larson (2004) noted the potential for the name to be a senior synonym, but retained Myersina in the interest of stability. It is likely that the name Paragobius had not been used as a valid name since Bleeker and the name possibly could have been treated as a nomen oblitum under Article 29.1.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (2000). However, the usage of the name by Kottelat (2013) now prevents that action. It should be noted that we follow Akihito et al. (2013) in retaining the type species of Paragobius (Gobius knutteli = Cryptocentrus filifer) in the genus Cryyptocentrus with the genus Myersina valid.
