Genus Mulloidichthys Whitley, 1929

Introduction

The names of the species in this genus have often been confused and the nomenclature is complex. Identifications in the literature before 1984 of these species often have the names reversed. Mulloidichthys auriflamma (Forsskål, 1775) has been frequently used in the literature for the species treated here as Mulloidichthys flavolineatus. The former species has been shown to belong in the genus Parupeneus and is now treated as a junior synonym of Parupeneus forsskali (Fourmanoir & Guézé, 1976).
