  Syntype(s) BMNH 1897.1.20.45 (original type localities as Palm Creek and Red Bank Creek, McDonnell Ranges), Central Australia; SAMA F513, Red Bank Creek, Central Australia; SAMA F514 (The Fink River headwaters are in the McDonnell Ranges, NT and is also known as the Larapinta River and this lot is thought to be a syntype; Zietz also indicated in the introduction that specimens came from the Finke River system), Finke River, Central Australia.

Introduction

Widely considered a synonym of M. mogurnda until recently (Allen & Jenkins 1999). The species was listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN in 2019.
