Introduction
Species limits re-defined following Tea & Gill (2020) and Tea et al. (2019) who provide evidence of divergent clades within the previously monotypic Microcanthus. They removed M. joyceae from synonymy with M. strigatus for the SW Pacific form present on the east coast of Australia, and retained M. strigatus for the species from Western Australia and the NW Pacific.
