Genus Microcanthus Swainson, 1839
Type species:
Chaetodon strigatus Cuvier, 1831 by monotypy.
Introduction
Genus recently reviewed by Tea et al. (2019) and Tea & Gill (2020) who showed the presence of divergent clades within Microcanthus. They removed M. joyceae from synonymy with M. strigatus for the SW Pacific form occurring on the east coast of Australia, and retained M. strigatus for the Western Australian and NW Pacific species.
