Introduction
Removed from synonymy with Microcanthus strigatus by Tea & Gill (2020) and based on data from Tea et al. (2019) who used molecular and morphological analysis to demonstrate the presence of deeply divergent clades within the previously monotypic Microcanthus. Tea & Gill (2020) resurrected M. joyceae from synonymy with M. strigatus for the form present in the SW Pacific while retaining the name M. strigatus for the species from Western Australia and the NW Pacific.
