Species Macquaria honlami Hoser, 2020
- Macquaria honlami Hoser, R.T. 2020. Two new species of fish, previously confused with the Macquarie Perch Macquaria australasica Cuvier 1830 (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Percichthyidae) from east coast drainages in Australia. Australasian Journal of Herpetology 43: 27-32 [29].
Type data:
Syntype(s) AM I.16625-001 (Designated as Holotype however I.16625-001contains several specimens), Kangaroo River, NSW [34.72 S., 150.50 E].
Introduction
Previously referred to as M. australasica but specimens from easterly flowing Hawkesbury-Nepean river system long thought to represent different species by various authors (e.g., Harris & Rowland, 1996; Allen et al. 2002). Specimens from the Kangaroo River studied by Pavlova et al (2017) were found to be genetically divergent from the form in the Hawkesbury-Nepean river system. Both forms were formally named as separate species by Hoser (2020).
