Off Brunswick Heads, NSW (28°27'S, 153°50'E) to Rottnest Island, WA (32°S, 115°28'E), also Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island; the Australian distribution of this species may be more widespread as early works did not distinguish the species from L. rhacinus (as L. callarias); temperate, disjunct (east-Indo-west-central Pacific, Japan, New Zealand).
