   Ostracion cornutus Linnaeus, 1758 by original designation.

 

Introduction

We follow current usage here in recognising the genus. Phylogenetic studies (Klassen 1995, Santini et al. 2013) have suggested that Lactoria is paraphyletic and not separable from Tetrosomus, which is the oldest available name.. Tentatively we retain Lactoria and Tetrosomus. Santini et al. (2013) suggesed retaining the two genera but moving fornisini to Tetrosomus, but we have retained the previous classification.
