Introduction

This species is somewhat variable in its colouring with the longitudinal striping described for "darkly pigmented female" specimens by Dworakowska (1972) also found in males (as illustrated here). The record of the species from Queensland is from a long series of both sexes from Collinsville in the North Brigalow belt.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: parenchyma feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Darkly pigmented. Vertex with indistinct reddish pattern in male with three longitudinal red stripes in darkly pigmented female. Face below the antennae brownish black, above reddish. At sides of pronotum orange patches forming a marble pattern. Central part of pronotum and two patches at hind margin infuscated. In darkly pigmented females, inner margins of basal triangle broadly darkened, forming together with the pattern on pronotum a figure like the leaf of clover. Apical half of forewing darkly smoked, apical veins brown at their ends, costal part of wing reddish. Male genital apparatus distinct. Aedeagus tubular, slightly curved cephalad, with shallow transverse furrows on sides. Abdominal apodemes very long. Length ♂ 2.8 mm, ♀ 3.1 mm (Dworakowska 1972).
