Introduction

Recent genetic studies indicate that Atlantic sailfishes (I. albicans) and Indo-Pacific sailfishes (I. platypterus) are a single species, referred to I. platypterus as the senior synonym. See Collette et. al. 2006 and references therein.

New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia


Extra Distribution Information

South-western WA (32°25'S) to eastern Bass Strait (39°S), also Rowley Shoals (17°29'S) and Scott Reef (14°06'S), WA, Christmas Island and Lord Howe Island; tropical, subtropical, occasionally entering temperate waters, circumglobal.
