Subfamily Ilyocyprinae Kaufamnn, 1900

 

Diagnosis

Carapace more or less 1.0 mm long, usually subrectangular. Valves usually covered with small round pits, rarely smooth, and with one or two conspicuous transverse dorso-lateral grooves (sulci). Also, valves often with lateral projections. Left valve overlaps right one ventrally. Swimming setae on antenna present. Penultimate segment of antenna not divided in males, also male sexual bristles not developed. Protopod of first thoracopod segmented, in females (2- or 3-segmented), that of males transformed into 2-segmented clasping organs. Terminal segment of third thoracopod cylindrical and with three setae, penultimate segment with two setae, basal segment with only one seta. Caudal ramus well developed. Zenker's organ with 15–20 rows of spines, not arranged in rosettes; both entities spherically enlarged.
