Bunbury (33º20´S) to Shark Bay (25º21´S), WA, with questionable records from Onslow region (21º38´S) (the nominal subspecies) and north of Cardwell, QLD (18°03'S) to Franklin Harbour, SA (136º55´E) (H. r. ardelio); temperate, subtropical.
