Introduction

IUCN Red List Status: Data Deficient. Kuiter (2001) separated the Western Australian species, H. montebelloensis, from the eastern species H. zebra only on the basis of the lack of stripes on the body in H. montebelloensis. Lourie et al. (2016) pointed out that underwater photos from Western Australia show distinct zebra-stripes and that other species are variable in the presence of stripes. Tentatively we follow Lourie et al. (2016).
