Introduction

Kuiter (2009) considered Hippocampus trimaculatus Leach in Leach & Nodder 1814, to be a complex of species that includes H. dahli Ogilby 1908. Lourie et al. (1999) considered Hippocampus dahli to be a syonym of Hippocampus trimaculatus. Subsequently Lourie et al. (2016) recognised the species as distinct.
