Genus Helcogramma McCulloch & Waite, 1918

  • Helcogramma McCulloch, A.R. & Waite, E.R. 1918. Some new and little known fishes from South Australia. Records of the South Australian Museum (Adelaide) 1(1): 39-78 figs 26-31 pls 2-7 [51] [the derivation is believed to be from the Greek helko to draw or attract + gramme = line transliterated to a feminine noun, rather than from the Greek neuter noun gramma = a written leter or musical scale; the two words are often confused and McCulloch & Ogilby (1918) appear to have regarded it as neuter referring to Helcogramma medium; we accept the genus as feminine with the diagnosis referring to the shape of the lateral line].
    Type species:
Helcogramma decurrens McCulloch & Waite, 1918 by original designation.
