- Haliichthys taeniophora Gray, J.E. 1859. Description of a new genus of lophobranchiate fishes from western Australia. Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1859(27): 38-39 pl. 7 [39, pl. 7] [derivation apparently from the Greek taenios = bands + phoros = a bearer and treated as a noun in apposition by Gray, 1859].
