Holotype USNM 70271, off Sombrero Island, southern Luzon Island, Philippines [13°48´45"N, 120°41´51"E].

Extra Distribution Information
North of Port Hedland (18°12’S, 118°14’E,) WA, based on a specimen in the CSIRO, and possibly off Cartier Reef, Timor Sea, records of this species from the east coast of Australia are probably based on H. marmoratus, often treated as a junior synonym of H. reticulatus (see Ho & Last 2018); tropical, east Indo-west Pacific.
