Subtribe Germaricina Cobos, 1979

Introduction

The three described species of Germarica Blackburn are probably but a small percentage of the total number of these small, black jewel beetles that await description. Published records and antecdotal accounts suggest a co-evolutionary relationship exists between Germarica and species of Casuarina and Allocasuarina, the she-oaks. A suggested relationship with the cylindromorphine lineage is probably only based on convergent external morphology, i.e. small size, black, cylindrical body. In reality, Germarica is likely of Australian origin with true relationships obscured by the lack of more detailed, modern study, i.e. molecular systematics.

The definition of this subtribe was by Cobos (1979) and the last revision of Germarica was by Obenberger (1923).
