Genus Gaidropsarus Rafinesque, 1810

Compiler and date details

1 September 2011 - Dianne J. Bray

Introduction

Paxton et al. (2006) treated Gaidropsarus in the family Phycidae, whereas Iwamoto & Cohen (2003) placed it in its own family, the Gaidropsaridae. Eschemeyer (2011) placed it in the family Lotidae. Here we follow Endo (2002), who placed it in the Gadidae. Recent molecular studies of Roa-Varón & Ortí (2009) support this placement, but also included the Phycinae as a subfamily in the Gadidae..
