Type species:
Syngnathus superciliaris Günther, 1880 by original designation (Syngnathus superciliaris is a synonym of Syngnathus tigris Castelnau, 1879). - Tigricampus Whitley, G.P. 1934. Supplement to the check-list of the fishes of New South Wales. 12 unnumbered pages in McCulloch, A.R. (ed.). The Fishes and Fish-like Animals of New South Wales. Sydney : Roy. Zool. Soc. N.S.W. 104 pp. 43 pls. [1] [considered by Dawson 1985 to be a nomen nudum, however Whitley did indicate a type species and referred to treatment in McCulloch 1922, which did give characters separating the species; the name has not been used and in the interest of stability we treat it here as a junior synonym].
