Genus Eupsilocephala Kröber, 1912

Introduction

Eupsilocephala, like Johnmannia, differ from all other Therevidae from anywhere else in the world as they usually have metallic, glossy, black integument and an unusually globular appearance as the abdomen is curved beneath the body. Eupsilocephala are distinguished from Johnmannia by their starkly contrasting bright orange wings. They are collected very rarely; no species is known from more than 10 specimens. Eupsilocephala has been collected from semi-arid areas in Western Australia around Perth and Geraldton, a second species from Queensland around Eidsvold and Chinchilla, and two further species from south-eastern Queensland, one of which is orange rather than the usual glossy black.
