Diagnosis

Carapace short, often laterally compressed. Margins of both valves smooth, without teeth. Left valve around mouth area with characteristic "press-button". Aestetasc Y of antenna long, approximately reaching distal end of corresponding segment. Terminal segment of mandibular palp several times longer than broad. Maxillula: masticatory processes weakly developed; palp well-developed. Second thoracopod: basal seta present. Third thoracopod: basal segment with 3 setae; distal segment short, with two short and one long seta. Penis with 2 distal processes.
