Introduction

Kuiter (2010) considered Cirrhilabrus exquisitus to be a species complex including up to 5 undescribed species, with three separate ones from Australia. Further work is required to resolve these species.

Rowley Shoals (17°18'S, 119°22'E) and Scott Reef (14°01'S, 121°50'E), WA, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea (12°15'S, 122°59'E), Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Indian Ocean, and Boot Reef (9°58'S, 144°42'E) to Swain Reefs, QLD (21°30'S, 152°25'E), also Lihou Reefs (17°21'S, 151°46'E) and Coringa-Herald Reefs (ca. 17°05'S, 149°50'E), Coral Sea; tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific.
