Holotype ZIUT 3267 (lost), off Goto Islands, Japan [31°27'-31°33'N, 125°52'-126°57'E]. - Chromis megalopsis Allen, G.R. 1976. Two new species of damselfishes (Pomacentridae) from Western Australia. Records of the Western Australian Museum 4(2): 133-144 figs 1-2 [136, fig. 1] [misspelled megalopis in caption to Fig. 1].
