Southern half of Australia below 700 m, from approximately Brisbane, QLD (27º28´S) to Perth, WA (32º00´S), including the Murray-Darling system, many coastal river systems of NSW and Victoria, Lake Sorell, TAS; temperate, native to Europe and Asia, but introduced worldwide.

Introduced from Europe and Singapore.
