Introduction

This species has a long and complex nomenclatural history as the result of sparse initial descriptions of the taxa involved, and multiple mis-identifications. The name Centrophorus granulosus has also been widely applied to this species but primarily outside Australia. See White et al. (2022) for a detailed explanation.
