Comment: Böhlke (1984) regards Bonaparte's (1834) Spinax uyatus as a new name proposal. This was not accepted by White et al. (2022) who considered Bonaparte's 1834 work a re-description of Rafinesque's Squalus uyato and not a new name, and instead designated a neotype.Subsequent designation references:

Introduction
This species has a long and complex nomenclatural history as the result of sparse initial descriptions of the taxa involved, and multiple mis-identifications. The name Centrophorus granulosus has also been widely applied to this species but primarily outside Australia. See White et al. (2022) for a detailed explanation.
