Introduction

This species has been widely treated as a synonym or subspecies of Callionymus japonicus, a species not found in Australia (see Fricke 2000). It was also recorded from Queensland and New South Wales (Fricke 2000), but subsequently found to be based on Calliurichhtys ogilbyi (see Fricke 2002).
