Introduction
This species was previously referred to as Calliurichthys scaber. However Fricke (2002) established that Calliurichthys scaber is restricted to Lord Howe Island and the form from NSW and QLD is a separate species, Calliurichthys ogilbyi. Both species have also been widely referred to as Calliurichthys japonicus which is not recorded from Australia.
