- Sphagebranchus catostomus Schneider, J.G. in Bloch, M.E. & Schneider, J.G. 1801. Systema Ichthyologiae Iconibus ex Illustratum. Berlin 584 pp. 110 pls. [536] [ex. Forster MS; derivation apparently from the Greek kata = inferior + stoma = mouth, considered to have been Latinized as an adjective].
