Lower, H.F. 1952. A revision of Australian species previously referred to the genus Empoasca (Cicadellidae: Homoptera). Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 76(5-6): 190-221 [214] - Austroasca malvae (Evans, 1942) [Austroasca Lower was synonymised with Empoasca Walsh by Evans (1966) who listed all the included species as new combinations. Ghauri (1967) regarded the two genera as being separate and this was accepted by Evans (1977). However, the reinstated combinations were not listed by either author and first reappeared in Day & Fletcher (1994)]. —

Introduction
This species, with its bold brown markings, is similar in general appearance to A. histrionicula (Kirkaldy). It is found on Malva sp in SE Queensland with a single record from western New South Wales.

Diagnosis
Head ventral surface green; frontoclypeus yellowish with a broad median longitudinal white stripe; vertex and crown pale greenish white with four longitudinal brown stripes, two of which border the eyes; eyes brown. Pronotum greenish yellow with three greenish white markings lying close to the anterior margin. Scutellum yellowish with a median longitudinal white stripe extending from the anterior margin as far as the centre. Tegmen hyaline, greenish yellow with a white oval area in the clavus; apical third brown, veins pale green. Thorax and abdomen ventral surface pale yellowish green; legs green. Male genitalia almost identical with those of Empoasca pulcherrima [= Austroasca histrionicula (Kirkaldy)] (Evans 1942).
