Introduction

This genus is widespread across the Palaearctic and Oriental regions with species also in Chile, Algeria, Cape Verde, the Pacific region and Australia. At least 25 species are known, of which 7 are found in Australia. These appear to be restricted to Australia but examination of the fauna in New Guinea may show that some of the Australian species are more widespread. The vegetable leafhopper is widespread and common in all states of Australia and is a known pest of leafy vegetables and other economically important plants.

Both male and female genitalia are heavily bristled, ensiform bristles being always present and obvious. Dorsal hooks are either vestigial or absent (Lower 1952).
