Introduction

Members of Anabarhynchus are relatively pilose, robust therevids. Anabarhynchus is found in Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand and is the most species rich genus in the region (approx. 200 species) with still many undescribed species in collections.

Diagnosis

Antenna broad, often with large setae; cell m3 open; hind femur with one or more anteroventral apical setae; femora with appressed scales and dark ventral setae; postspiracular pile usually present; velutum patches absent on fore and hind femora and gonocoxites; inner gonocoxal process present; distiphallus with broad dorsal apodeme, simple ventral apodeme; female with two spermathecae.
