Extra Distribution Information

This species was imported from France to Australia in 1939 to help in the control of the weed species Hypericum perforatum, St. John's Wort, which the larvae help slow the growth and spread of by working in the living roots. Many specimens from around Canberra, from the 1940s, are present in the ANIC but no recent captures are known (Curletti 2001).

Introduced from France.

Ecological Descriptors

Adult: diurnal, folivore, volant.

Larva: root-feeder (associated flora: Hypericum perforatum L. [CLUSIACEAE] St. John's Wort; Hypericum tetrapterum Fr. [CLUSIACEAE]).

Note

This taxon has a number of synonyms but all are taxa described from the Palaearctic Region and have no bearing on this species in Australia.
